What remained of the human being.
Victor Ioan Frunzã got up Brecht‘s play "Mother Courage" at the German National Theatre Timisoara

The atmosphere is accented very effectively by Adriana Grand‘s stage set (the equipment deserves absolutely a price of the theatre federation UNITER). It is metallical-coldly and unfriendly. The space use is likewise innovative: The stage occupies the whole space of the hall, whereby the distance between auditorium and stage is blown up and the direct experience of the happening was made possible - but for an audience reduced down to 90 spectators. These dimensions make it also possible that at the two ends of the stage actions run parallel and the conception wins at dynamics in such a way.
The "Mother Courage" is above all an ensemble achievement. Under the direction of Victor Ioan Frunzã the dramatic construction grows to a unit, in which there are no solo runs. Each secondary part is drawn with extreme finesse, creates a world for itself, without impairing the overall construction [...]
In the role of the Courage, on whose shoulders after all the action rests, Ildikó Jarcsek-Zamfirescu is brilliant and with sureness she creates one of her best roles. She does not shrink back of large physical employment and convinces with a large range of very convincingly played emotions. However, her play is not of exaggerated staginess or forced emphase, but of genuine humanity, which finally flows into (suggested) insanity - in the very effective conclusion scene, in which she, confused singing, pushes the burning buggy over the stage, during the war (by the singing war god, played by Marc Ossau) continues to rave.
Moreover Simona Vintilã also convinces in the role of the mute Kattrin, who tries to communicate herself and is at the mercy of the failure. She gives the role a human dimension, which is pathetically. As sergeant/captain Marc Ossau has a very solid stage presence, and an increase in performance is also noticeable of the youngest actors (Colin Buzoianu as Eilif and Boris Gaza as Schweizerkas). Mircea Dragoman as solicitor and second lieutenant and Tatiana Sessler as Yvette also create believable and well outlined characters [...]
The production is conclusively, coherent and extremely tense, which makes it to a real theatre experience.
With this "Courage" Victor Ioan Frunzã surely created one of the most complex, but also best productions of the German National Theatre Timisoara of the last years, which will go into the golden book of the theatre. Moreover it sets a sign in the theatre world of the city and the German stage recommends as a good address if it concerns theatres.

Why (still) one laughs, why still one applauds? [to the play "Out of control"]

The lustrous mood and the devilish play on the stage do not diminish for more than two hours, because of the starting point with a fascinating lining up of gags - all charming and expressive at the same time. (...) The actor Bernd von Bömches - an invariably "british" presence - is the main element in the whole play constellation. And this not only because everything starts from him and strikes back on him, but also because the artist - with the marking of this shape - risks his versatile, distinctive skills. Close by him all other ensemble members show best playing achievements: we find profile-strong performances, elegantly used play desire, finely drawn shapes by Mircea Dragoman, Ida Jarcsek-Gaza, Rares Hontzu or Boris Gaza. Daniela Török is much more than the sympathetic sex symbol of the German stage, she convinces with her representation. Treated by the author less consistently, the shapes of the Karina Reitsch and Isolde Cobet integrate themselves moderately into the dramaturgy of the play, which is supplemented on the happiest way by the stage equipment of Arch. Traian Zamfirescu, in agreement with the intention of Bogdan Ulmu.

"King Bérenger"
Premiere on the stage of the opera

In the hall of the Romanian Opera an extraordinary event will take place on 23rd of September at 7 p.m. - the premiere of the opera-theatre performance "King Bérenger" by the Swiss composer Heinrich Sutermeister, adapted and directed by Frans Meevis after the original text "The king dies" by Eugene Ionesco. In the production of Frans Meevis modern music, with many dissonances and syncopes, mates with the dramatic prose text. The unorthodox performance is the result of the close co-operation of the lyric soloists with the actors of the German National Theatre Timisoara and is a premiere for Romania. Except the main role, played by the baritone singer Cristian Rudic, all roles will be interpreted by a soloist of the opera and an actor. On the cast list there are Aura Twarowska, Stefania Stefan, Gergely Menyhért Németi, Elvira Cimponieriu, Sabin Placinta Ciurescu of the Romanian Opera Timisoara and Ida Jarcsek-Gaza, Tatiana Sessler, Mircea Dragoman, Ildikó Jarcsek-Zamfirescu and Boris Gaza of the German National Theatre Timisoara. The performance will be subtitled in Romanian language. The music direction holds the conductor Ion Iancu.

The German theatre finished the play time strongly
with 100 per cent German cast

Recently with the performance for children "Max and Moritz" after Wilhelm Busch and the mono drama "Siberian" by Felix Mitterer back from a tour through Transilvania, the actors of the German Theatre in Timisoara rehearse "The broken jug" (in the context of the co-operation of the German National Theatre Timisoara with "Radu Stanca" from Sibiu), "Ladies of the society" by Clare Boothe Luce, directed by the German director Clemens Bechtel (for the audience of Timisoara well-known from his earlier co-operations with the German National Theatre). The premiere of this play will take place at the end of September. Till then "Mother courage", the play which led to many newspaper debates, but which is however without contradiction the best performance of the Timisoara‘s theatre scene, will get up on the stage again, on Wednesday the 19th of June, 7 p.m. The actors Ildikó Jarcsek-Zamfirescu, Simona Vintila, Colin Buzoianu, Boris Gaza, Mircea Dragoman, Marc Ossau, Bernd von Bömches, Alexander Ternovits will play Brecht‘s figures on the stage set by the stage designer Adriana Grand and under the guidance of the talented director Victor Ioan Frunzã. Boulevard comedy at the German Theatre

Yesterday the German Theatre showed the premiere of "Dinner for cranks" by Francis Veber. The boulevard comedy, produced by Bernd von Bömches, has as main figure a mad book publisher who looks for several cranks in order to present them to his friends on a weekly dinner. The found crank, a tax officer, is presented to the friends in his absence because the publisher has a lumbago... Francis Veber‘s comedies were played on several stages all over the world, and yesterday evening we saw the actors Mircea Dragoman, Simona Vintila, Rares Hontzu, Marc Ossau, Ciprian Lungu, Daniela Török, Colin Buzoianu and Alexander Ternovits, some of them are play students, in the scenery by George Petre.

Mother Courage on Timisoara‘s theatre stage

On Sunday the 29th of April, 7 p.m., and on Monday the 30th of April, also at 7 p.m., the premiere of the performance Mother Courage and her children by Bertolt Brecht will be performed on the stage of the German National Theatre Timisoara. The cast is in addition to the troop of the theatre of Timisoara composed of: Ildikó Jarcsek-Zamfirescu, Marc Ossau, Bernd von Bömches, Alexander Ternovits, Mircea Dragoman, Boris Gaza, Simona Vintila, Johanna Adam, Colin Buzoianu, Tatiana Sessler. The music is of Paul Dessau, the choreography of Liana Iancu, the scenery and the costumes of Adriana Grand and Victor Ioan Frunzã leads the direction. Mother Courage is a chronicle of the war of 30 years, a story about a compromise, about a world based on the principle "who tricks whom". The performance with this production will be performed on a special stage area: an area behind the front line. The auditorium becomes a platform on which actors and spectators meet, in a metallic atmosphere which breaks permanently and arises then again. In a corner of the platform the orchestra is placed which accompanies the actors. The role of the Anna Fierling is played by the actress Ildikó Jarcsek-Zamfirescu (for the second time at the German National Theatre Timisoara, after the version of 1988 under the direction of Darida Istvan-Andras). The performance in German language will be translated into Romanian language simultaneously [over headphones].
